CURRENT PROJECTS

Shanti Uganda Community Centre
We are currently in the process of raising money to purchase land to build the Shanti Uganda Community Centre. Our vision includes the creation of a sustainable village designed and led by the local community - An initiative which values traditional knowledge, healing from within and peaceful leadership. The Centre will be participatory in nature and will value and support local traditions, practices and needs. The Community Centre will consist of the following.

Birth Centre:
A place where birthing women come for prenatal support and care, prenatal yoga, birth assistance, postnatal support and breastfeeding education. Here, we will also provide training for local midwives and those in the birthing community.

Volunteer House:
A place for volunteers to stay while they join our family

School and Children’s Home:
We will begin with the creation of a small primary school and home for children in need. The school will be run by local teachers and the support of international volunteers and will value the integration of traditional knowledge, practical skills and the healing arts.

Shanti Community House and Healing Centre:
Where we will hold community events, trauma healing circles, yoga classes, expressive arts therapy and women’s groups. It will also be where we organize and manage all community development projects initiated by the local community.

Organic Farm:
The farm and gardens will provide food and income to support the children at the Shanti Uganda Centre. A place where community members will learn about sustainable agriculture and medicinal plants and develop practical income generating skills.

New Hope School, Entebbe, Uganda
Shanti Uganda continues to support the teachers and students of the New Hope School in Entebbe. We are currently raising money to purchase a water catchment system so that the students are able to receive adequate drinking water. Lack of hydration is a serious problem at the school and creates numerous health problems for the children who study all day without access to drinking water. The New Hope School is run by our good friend Godfrey who provides shelter and schooling for orphans and young children without adequate homes.

St. Isaac Agricultural Training Center, Jinja, Uganda
Shanti Uganda currently sits as the International Advisor for the St. Isaac Agricultural Training Center. The center was founded by our friend Christopher Kulabako with the intention of creating an organization to address poverty, health, education and nutrition within the region. In addition to protecting the local environment, the center promotes food security, income generating initiatives and education. Through training in organic farming and the use of demonstration farms, the center supports rural communities and children at risk. They host internship students from Makere University and were recently visited by the President of Uganda. Our work with St. Isaac includes organizational management and advising as well as volunteer coordination.
