The Shanti Uganda Society provides small grants and training to a group of HIV+ women in the Luweero District. Every member attends a training program where she learns how to make recycled paper jewellery, the business skills needed to sustain her business and is given everything she needs to begin – among many things, paper, varnish and wire. At the end of each training, there is a graduation ceremony and all of the women who have completed the program receive a certificate of training. They are strong, courageous, creative women who have lost loved ones, raised grandchildren, been child mothers, lived in IDP camps and now know what it means to move on, to believe and to step forward in life. They attend regular buying days where they receive an income, but above all, step into their power and provide for their families. We have also supported a women’s jewellery making group in Nsambya and provided an income generation grant to a textiles project in Entebbe. All of these products are sold in North America with proceeds going directly to the women and additional community initiatives. Purchase jewellery and textiles.

The scholarship project provides young adults with additional training in the form of skills training, or tuition. Scholarships are given to further the training of individuals who have shown an interest in continuing their work with The Shanti Uganda Society. Not only does this provide them with an education, but is allows us to create additional job opportunities in Uganda.
</body-html>
