Moon Cycle Africa
Follow former board member Brenna as she travels from Cape Town to Morocco in support of The Shanti Uganda Society! Beginning June 2011, Brenna will begin a journey across Canada, riding from Winnipeg to St. John's. In September 2011, along with her friend and fellow adventurer
Dave, Brenna will bike across the entire continent of Africa, visiting the Shanti Uganda projects along the way. Prior to departure, Brenna is raising money for the Shanti Uganda Society through various fundraising events and home parties throughout Canada. Her first goal is to raise $800 to purchase a bike for each of the midwives and staff at the birth house and maternity centre. Currently, the midwives have a long trek to work and back each day, and a bike would provide them with a sustainable, dependable, and empowering mode of transportation! In a direct way, a bike for each staff at the centre will help to ensure the health of birthing moms and their babies. As of February 23, 2011, $400 (approximately 5 bikes) has been raised via Brenna's facebook campaign. Please visit the page

Update: March 18, 2011: Moon Cycle Africa raises $900 - enough money to purchase a bike for each of the midwives and staff at the birth house and maternity centre! Due to the rural location of the centre, midwives have a long trek to work and back each day, and the bikes will provide them with a sustainable, dependable, and empowering mode of transportation, helping to ensure the health of birthing moms and their babies. As of February 23, 2011, $400 (approximately 5 bikes) has been raised via Brenna's facebook campaign.
Update: May 8, 2011: Moon Cycle Africa raises $470 (goal: $2000) to help build the fence surrounding Shanti Uganda's birth house and maternity centre. Donors of $60 or greater will have their name painted on one of the fence posts!
