The Shanti Uganda Seva Program is a volunteer program for all those with a commitment to selfless service. This program is open to student interns, development practitioners & specialists, midwives, doulas, health & birth educators, yoga teachers, permaculture experts, and anyone who is passionate about service, social justice and community-based development.
Duties:
Ø In collaboration with Shanti Uganda Project Coordinator design, document and implement monitoring and evaluation system for all Shanti Uganda programs
Ø Undertake monitoring and evaluation
Ø Develop and strengthen community partnerships, partnerships with other organizations and funding bodies within Uganda
Ø Work closely with and monitor Women's Income Generating group in obtaining their business and financial goals.
Ø Work with Shanti Uganda Project Coordinator to develop food distribution program

Where is Shanti Uganda located?
- The Shanti Uganda Volunteer House is located in Kasana town in the Luweero District. Kasana is located about 2 hours north of Kampala. Kasana is a medium sized town. There are a couple of internet cafes, several churches, convenience stores, a bank, a private clinic, a public hospital and small food markets.
What are the facilities at the Shanti Uganda Volunteer House?
- You will be provided with a bed with linens and a mosquito net. You will share a room with other volunteers. In the apartment, you will have access to a communal living room and kitchen with sink, gas stovetop and fridge. The house also has a shared western toilet and cold-water shower. While there is electricity, the town experiences frequent power outages from a few hours to a couple of days.
What will I be expected to contribute?
- In addition to expertise and skills, a Shanti volunteer is expected to contribute a donation of $400Cnd/month. These funds cover your accommodation at the volunteer house, pick up from the airport and scheduling, project support and weekly reviews with the Project Coordinator. This donation also maintains our volunteer program. We encourage you to fundraise. Past volunteers have raised over $1000 to cover their volunteer donation and support Shanti Uganda's Projects.
How long can I volunteer?
- Shanti Uganda Volunteers can offer their service for a minimum of 2 weeks and a maximum of 3 months.

Title: Volunteer Development Practitioner

Ø Assist Shanti Uganda staff in the growing, cultivation, preparation and administration of local healing herbs and food from our garden.
Ø Research local traditional herb use, work with traditional herbalist and birth attendants to establish safe practices for Shanti Maternity and Learning Centre
Ø Organize community workshops on holistic health practices and nutrition (especially for pregnancy)
Ø Help organize and maintain local seed-bank
Ø Work with local agriculturist to develop sustainable organic growing practices.
